THE OPPORTUNITY
Working with TIAC to elevate tourism experiences across Canada, The Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO) set out to increase the cache of winter and shoulder season experiences available in Ontario.
THE PROCESS
The experience development program, which engaged three separate regions of the province was delivered virtually, to tourism operators. BC Hughes worked with each of the tourism regions to select operators that would benefit from the program. The team then developed and delivered experience development workshops to participants. Participants were engaged before, during and after the session, to allow them to come up with an idea, learn from the inspiring plenary workshop session, discuss ideas with peers and their lead consultant. They were then invited to take part in an after care one on one coaching session to discuss logistics, operations, development and marketing related to the new experiences they were developing.
THE OUTCOME
36 tourism operators were invited to take part in the program. They learned how to create new and engaging visitor experiences targeting visitors with memorable, engaging offers. Participants were enthusiastic and enjoyed the opportunity to develop ideas and work through issues with their peers and their consulting team member.
I appreciated that the organizers did their research regarding the business participants. The small group work portion led by a knowledgeable/skilled facilitator enabled us to break down the information and consider ways to truly integrate the learnings into our business. Excellent networking opportunity. Stellar workshop. – participant operator
