THE OPPORTUNITY
The RCMP Heritage Centre (RCMPHC) engaged BC Hughes to develop an Experience Development Plan aimed at advancing its commitment to delivering meaningful, engaging, and story-driven visitor experiences. The focus was on creating two new, highly engaging tourism experiences that align with the RCMPHC brand and have the potential to attract new visitors. As a previous Tourism Saskatchewan AWEshop participant, RCMPHC identified BC Hughes as a strong fit to lead this work.
THE PROCESS
This project followed a multiphase process that included, comprehensive research of the competitive environment, staff and stakeholder engagement, and facilitated brainstorming sessions. Research examined the RCMPHC’s current situation, visitor demographics, tourism trends, and subject‑matter insights related to the experiential subject areas. This work identified opportunities for the RCMPHC to introduce new, high‑value immersive experiences that are educational, and differentiated within the regional tourism landscape
THE OUTCOME
Informed by research and engagement, two distinct experience concepts were developed. The experiential plans include hands-on, immersive engagement for visitors with problem solving challenge-based programming centred around learning, collaboration and problem-solving.
The project outcomes included a research summary, experiential storyline generation, conceptual plan, implementation plan and marketing plan, all designed to take each of the experiences from concept to launch.
The RCMPHC is preparing to pilot and launch both experiences in spring and early summer 2026. Once in market, these offerings are expected to support key strategic priorities, enhance the overall visitor experience, and contribute to the Centre’s path toward national museum designation.
