THE OPPORTUNITY
The North Shore of Lake Superior is an area of natural beauty and cultural heritage. Located in Northern Ontario along Lake Superior, the world’s largest freshwater lake, the area is poised for tourism growth. As major tourism developments take place in this region in the coming years, the communities along the North Shore realized they had an opportunity to work together to capitalize on tourism prospects and to benefit from economic returns.
THE PROCESS
BC Hughes worked with representatives from the region, consulting with key tourism community stakeholders to gather valuable input into the Lake Superior North Shore Tourism Strategy. In addition to stakeholder one-on-one and group consultations, the current environmental landscape was assessed as well as the strategic intentions of local, regional and provincial tourism organizations. Considering the assets of the region and the new development of a National Park in the area, recommended actions were formulated.
THE OUTCOME
By addressing the tourism challenges of the region, the group was able to create a plan to work together and leverage partnerships to support economic development through tourism by advancing the tourism offerings of the region.
