THE OPPORTUNITY:
Simcoe County’s craft beverage producers have been working together to increase visitation and the sale of craft beverages in the county for a number of years. Building on the success of this collaboration, Tourism Simcoe County recognized an opportunity to grow tourism by leveraging the region’s expanding craft beverage sector. BC Hughes was engaged to develop a Craft Beverage Tourism Development Plan to help position Simcoe County as a compelling culinary destination, while increasing visitation, in-market spending, and support for local producers.
THE PROCESS:
BC Hughes led a phased approach beginning with research, stakeholder engagement, and industry analysis. This included developing an inventory of craft beverage operators, facilitating workshops with producers, and engaging restaurants and “Made in Simcoe County” partners to identify opportunities for collaboration.
THE OUTCOME:
The Craft Beverage Tourism Development Plan provides a clear path to position Simcoe County to create a visitor-centric craft beverage destination. It outlines actionable steps to increase visitation, drive traffic to producers, and boost local sales through enhanced tourism experiences. Key recommendations aimed to strengthen industry collaboration, expand existing programs and align producers, restaurants, and local food partners to deliver market-ready tourism experiences and events.
By fostering stronger partnerships across the craft beverage, culinary, and “Made in Simcoe County” sectors, the plan supports the creation of a connected and compelling visitor offering. With implementation underway, Simcoe County is well-positioned to grow its craft beverage tourism product, elevate its culinary identity, and attract new audiences seeking authentic, locally driven experiences.
