THE OPPORTUNITY
Established in 1987, Fathom Five National Marine Park is Canada’s first federally protected marine area. Fathom Five, nearby Bruce Peninsula National Park and the village of Tobermory have seen extensive growth in recent years. Parks Canada hired BC Hughes to undertake a Visitor Experience Strategy, keeping sustainability in mind.
THE PROCESS
Following Parks Canada’s nine step visitor experience process, BC Hughes worked with staff to gather input surrounding potential visitor experiences, assessing the options and their fit with the target market, the National Park’s essence of place and the visitor experience goals.
THE OUTCOME
BC Hughes delivered a Visitor Experience Strategy that is an example of “doing parks differently”. The report documents potential updates to existing FFNMP visitor experiences, designed to engage visitors and encourage them to create a deeper connection with the park. It has also provided Parks Canada with a road map for new visitor experience developments to take place over the next five years.
It has been great working with you on this project – your creative thinking, attention to detail and ability to paint the picture of each amazing experience have been huge assets throughout the planning process. I know I speak for our whole team when I say that we’re really happy with the final products. I’m looking forward to the next stages of these projects – hopefully bringing some of these awesome ideas to life! – Parks Canada Staff Member
